National Homeless Animals’ Day ® 2005

National Homeless Animals’ Day 2005 was commemorated for the fourteenth consecutive year on August 20th with Candlelight Vigil observances in Washington D.C., 35 states and 22 countries.

Background

International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR) began a massive educational campaign on August 22, 1992, with the first-ever National Homeless Animals’ Day and Candlelight Vigils. We focused public attention on the worldwide dog and cat overpopulation crisis and the simple solution: spay and neuter companion animals, to end the senseless annual killing of millions upon millions of otherwise healthy but homeless animals.

ISAR’s National Homeless Animals’ Day and Candlelight Vigils, always held on the third Saturday of August, shed light on the tragedy of pet overpopulation, memorializing the animals destroyed while jump-starting new campaigns and proposing practical and affordable solutions to end the killing.

Organize A Vigil for 2006

As any past vigil coordinator can attest, early planning is a key component to organizing a successful National Homeless Animals’ Day observance. The world will once again band together in solidarity and commemorate next year’s National Homeless Animals’ Day on August, 19, 2006. ISAR welcomes back all previous vigil coordinators and a host of new ones to participate in National Homeless Animals’ Day 2006 and shout the spay/neuter message in camaraderie with organizations all over the world to put an end once and for all to the senseless slaughter of companion animals.

ISAR offers free candlelight vigil planning packets, which help guide participants through holding a successful event. Interested parties may request a free packet by mail, phone, fax or email. Candlelight vigil planning packets are scheduled to be mailed by the first week of June, 2006.

By recruiting volunteers and combining our efforts to spread the spay/neuter message, we strive to arm the world and heighten pet overpopulation awareness, in the process becoming an effective force against this crisis.

ISAR offers free planning packets to all who are interested in coordinating an event.  If you would like to participate, please email me your postal mailing address and I will send a free kit out to you.  My direct email address is: Amy@isaronline.org .  The kits will be mailed during the latter part of this month (May)..
