SIBERIAN HUSKIES

PLEASE LEARN ABOUT HUSKIES BEFORE YOU GET ONE, READ AND LEARN FROM MARIAH'S STORY!

AFTER 3.5 YEARS SHE HAS FOUND HER EXPERIENCED AND LOVING MOM IN RANAE THAT HAS TAKEN IN RETIRED SLED MALAMUTES AND HUSKIES FOR 35 YEARS. THANK YOU RANAE FOR SHOWING US YOUR WONDERFUL HORSES YOU TRAIN, MARIAH'S LITTLE BROTHER AND REASSURING DENISE THAT MARIAH IS IN A LOVING, LIFETIME, EXPERIENCED AND SAFE HOME FINALLY.  *MARIAH is a purebred S.F. 4 yr. Siberian Husky Beauty and the Biggest Loving Teddy Bear.   But when I found her in the county shelter cowering in the back of her kennel affraid of people at 6 months of age, after her owner had realized she could not coop her up in her apartment with no human contact, no contact with other dogs or daily exercise, and Mariah had been dumped in the shelter even though her owner had paid hundreds of dollars to a breeder because she was such a beautiful puppy.  Why did the breeder not explain to her owner what Huskies needed? Why are dozens of Huskies and Malamutes running away from their backyards and "dog runs" and not being claimed by their owners when they end up in shelters?

Her favorite thing she does when she runs up to me now is to give me kisses.  She is the most loving and cuddly dog.  I know you probably have heard about most Huskies as I have since I have rescued for over 10 years. But most breeds in fact every breed of dog that is not properly socialized and trained, is a problem. Mariah unlike all the other Huskies I could not rescue from shelters, because they had just been thrown outside,  is different. And after 3 plus years of socialization, doggie day care, training and being with me and the hundreds of dogs I have rescued. She has had more socialization than most dogs. She really is a very loving and special family inside dog.  If you would like I could give you the family's number that took her into their home for 4 months as a foster dog this summer with a newborn baby on oxygen with special needs, a 2 yr. old little girl, and another dog,  They just loved Mariah and could not believe how well trained she was. She is so good here that I let her out to play with all the dogs in the backyard, and when I say inside they all run in and go to their own crates to eat, sleep, chew treats. She knows hers and runs right into it and says nothing until I let her out to come have one on one with me in my room, go for a ride in the car,  or in the yard.  She rides great in the car on long trips.  She has slept on my bed and been perfect with the other dogs until I let her out in the morning. She really impressed me when I took her with 7 other dogs to The Bay Area, and we went to the Sausilito Dog Park. She stayed close by, did not run anywhere, but stayed calmly and loyally close to me,  and when I started loading the dogs in the car, she was more worried about being left behind and just followed along the fence. This made me proud that she had come so far and was as well behaved, loyal, and calm as my own dogs.  Yes she runs, but most dogs do off leash, and cannot ever be off leash unless in fenced yard, dog park or doggie day care. She must be indoor, and have a large completely fenced yard of at least 6 feet in height.  She needs an  Indoor  home that will  train her for one year so she listens to them,  not run and get lots of exercise on leash. NO CATS. Click here to learn about Siberian Husky Traits. Please do your homework before adopting an Arctic Dog.

circle09_purple.gifGeneral Information about Siberian Huskies  We just found a young Siberian Husky female running on a busy street.  Kasia luckily had a phone number on her collar.  She ran right out in front of cars and did not know the danger.  She had run far away from home.  Mom did not know that Huskies can get out of any yard, even her 8 foot fenced yard which had another dog with her.  We explained to her owner who said she had never gotten out before, that she needed to stop leaving her outside all day when she was not home.  Since Kasia is housetrained, she can stay safely in the house until her owner comes home or else she will continue this bad habit she has learned of running away and maybe get hit by a car next time.

Denise,
Was so very impressed with the work you do from visiting your outstanding
web site. I am glad I gave you what I did for Mariah. I hope it helps
with your future work with Save A Dog & Kids.  I loved what you wrote
about Mariah's new home
. She is a doll and we so love her. She is a
typical husky but not typical in the aspect that she is extremely willing to
learn, obeys, and loves unconditionally. Thanks so much for letting us
adopt her.
It's perfect and she is a blast to watch. Her and Tazz play 'catch me if
you can' . I've got to get some photos of them. Email me if you get
time, but gathering from your web site your time is limited.
Best Wishes,
RaNae

Hi Denise,
Today was a great day for Mariah.   She went to the groomer.   They fell in
love with her.   She got bathed and brushed.   She is blowing her coat,
right now, and I guess the groomers shop was filled with cotton candy from
Mariah.   I have been using my dog groom attachment to my vacuum and she has
been getting brushed that way every day.    It's a great way to brush her
because the vacuum takes care of all the fluff.   I'll take her to the
groomer's every two weeks until she stops blowing her coat then she'll go
once a month for a bath and brush.  I taught her a new trick.   She will now
roll over on command for a treat.   She's so smart. Her and Tazz get along
famously.  She loves the snow,  jumping around like a jack rabbit.  She was
playing with her rawhide chew bone yesterday and threw it around the room
until she lost it.   We soon found it and she was delighted.  She is so
respectful of my commands.   You did a marvelous job with her.   My mother
adores her.  My sister adores her.   Just about everyone that sees her falls
in love, she is so beautiful.   My four year old granddaughter came over to
be tended and the first thing she said was, "Grandma, your new dog has blue
eyes just like me."  That was it, now Allyson and Mariah have a connection
and a bond.  We took Mariah up to meet and see our three grandson's in
Layton.   Mariah is so socially conditioned that she acted like she was
home.   She made herself comfortable on my daughter, Julie's, family room
floor.   The boys hugged her, petted her, played with her, did Mariah's
tricks with her and she loved every minute of it.  Thanks so much for
letting us adopt her.

Read about her past rescued dogs like Kodiak on her site! This is a real tear jerker:

"KODIAK"
Kodiak came to me as a 7 year old retired sled team dog from my dear friend Pat Shane. He was a Christmas gift from my husband. Kodiak was ½ Siberian & ½ Malamute. His personality was not typical. He never ran away. He was our shadow on trail rides, camping trips or cross country skiing excursions. He came when he was called & stayed close to home, spending hours just laying on the back porch. He loved everyone. He protected my family. I could always trust him. Kodiak was stolen at the age of 15. At that time he was starting to cripple with the first stages of arthritis. I searched for him for over a year. We filed a police report and found a dog selling ring that had a truck with the license plate we had reported. The truck had cased our house for weeks. By this time Kodiak had been sold and there was no evidence to arrest these people. I never saw my precious Kodiak again. I'm certain he is no longer alive. This Is the only picture I ever had of him.

Mariah's new mom rehabilitates horses and does positive training called "Comfort Zone Training"

Mariah and her new brother follow mom around the house, go out with mom and dad to visit the horses, and Mariah will get to learn sled dog commands and racing.  She will also get to go play with another Siberian Husky at grandma's house.

MARIAH MY LOVE

Denise will really miss her loving Teddy Bear and Friend!  They had some wonderful loving moments she will never forget:

From her Foster home:    Hi, Denise,

This is how Mariah's days are.....
She sleeps with Rachel on her bed.
At 7:30 the dogs are let outside for about 15 minutes.
I get their food ready while they are out.  They come
in and eat. On the first morning Mariah ate with the
other dogs but hasn't since then so I put the food in
her crate.
After they eat they go out again for about 20 minutes
to play.
Then inside and Mariah goes in her crate for about an
hour while the other dogs come in my office with me.
After an hour Mariah is usually "talking" (so cute)
and I get her and bring  her in my office, too on
leash with the leash around my ankle.  So I have all
the dogs in here with me for a couple hours.
Then I take a break and let them outside for about 20
minutes or so.
Then back in and I put her in her crate for a little
while.  Usually about 30 minutes.  Then I bring them
all back into my office.  Her again, on leash with it
around my ankle.
After an hour or so she is usually bored of being in
the office so I let them out to play again for about
20-30 minutes.
Kelsi comes home from school at 3:00 so she plays with
the dogs downstairs and they stay with her for about
an hour or so.
We have put the gate up to keep the dogs in the
kitchen/family area when we are all downstairs.  We
put the stools by the gate to keep Mariah from jumping
over.  It is working really well.
Rachel gets home around 4:00 and then she plays with
the dogs.  She puts Mariah on leash and keeps her with
her.  We have dinner and then do homework and have
reading time.  The dogs are with us in the family
room.  Mariah is usually on the sofa with one of the
girls.
Then out they go to play for about 30 minutes.  Then
inside and still with us in the family room.
We take her leash off while she is with us all.
She is very playful and has lots of puppy in her.  She
is coming to us pretty good.  I was surprised.
I will attempt to take her for a walk this afternoon
if my knee holds up.  I thought I would take her
around the block.  She doesn't seem to pull on the
leash at all inside the house.  So I am excited to
take her around the block.
The Jack Russell across the street comes to play with
her.  He crawls under my gate and comes to play when
my dogs are out.  Or he cries by my front door and I
let him in to play.
I just wanted you to have her schedule so you know
what her life is like now.  She is adjusting well.
Isn't eating a whole lot but I am sure she will.
She is in her crate maybe 2 hrs out of the whole day
and then we when leave.
You have a safe trip.  Take care.  Mariah is fitting
in just wonderfully.  Bo and Tessa love wrestling with
her.

THANKS DOGMODE STAFF FOR ALWAYS TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF HER.  (Thanks Calif. adviser for reminding us that 99.9% of Huskies can never be let off leash, but Mariah is actually maturing and comes much more now when called.  She is really calming down.  Thanks Jori, Brandon, Reagan and Badger, adopted 4 years ago from our rescue, for taking care of her for us this past summer.  SHE REALLY IS THE MOST LOVING COMPANION YOU COULD HAVE IN YOUR HOME! Thanks Jo and family for taking her into your wonderful dog home last Christmas Holiday.
